From 1972 through 1995, Danny Elfman was best known to music fans for his work with the band Oingo Boingo and its precursor, The Mystic Knights Of The Oingo Boingo. Nowadays, however, his name is most often associated with his work in the field of film and television scores, including a long-running collaboration with Tim Burton that extends to the new Dark Shadows. The A.V. Club spoke to Elfman about his writing process and the methodology required to collaborate with Burton, as well as the legacy of Oingo Boingo and why he’s happier in dark rooms than on concert stages.
