Last week, Letters Of Note compiled a series of correspondences from 1980 between an elementary school librarian and a Fred Roos, a hotshot Hollywood producer. Jo Ellen Misakian, the librarian, reached out to Francis Ford Coppola suggesting he adapt her school’s favorite book, The Outsiders. Shockingly, Misakian received a response from Roos that Letters Of Note wisely qualifies as “cautiously optimistic.” The letters chronicle the pitching process, and lead up to Coppola actually directing the film, keeping the school children updated along the way with a bevy of behind-the-scenes production notes.

Need some free entertainment for your kids? The peeps from Sunset Ranch in the Hollywood Hills are walking around Ocean Front Walk right now (12:15) with a miniature horse handing out “buy one get one free” promotional fliers.
While there are plenty of laws about dogs on Ocean Front Walk, the only rules regarding horses seems to be:
“No person shall ride or pull any horsedrawn vehicle on bridle trails or other areas except as specifically provided for such purposes by the Board.”

Venice Beach Voted Best Boardwalk in the US
Venice Beach was voted "Best Beach Boardwalk" in the annual Travel Channel Best Beach Awards.
The Best Beach awards include categories like best beach bar or best snorkeling spot, and with over 9,000 votes, Venice beat out three other nominees to come out on top for best boardwalk: Ocean City, Maryland, Santa Cruz, Calif. and Hollywood, Fl.
