Culver City Dedicates Jefferson Boulevard Improvements Project [Video]

Culver City Dedicates Jefferson Boulevard Improvements Project [Video]Angeles District Superintendent for California State Parks Craig Sap.

It’s taken just under six months for the City of Culver City to complete its Jefferson Blvd. Improvements project at Hetzler Road.
On Friday morning, the City held a dedication ceremony for the improvements that include:
  • A traffic signal with a high visibility crosswalk at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Hetzler Road
  • Curb extensions at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Hetzler Road
  • Sidewalks filling the gap in existing sidewalks on Jefferson Boulevard near the entrance to the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook
  • Raised landscaped median islands (approx. 250 feet total length) on Jefferson Boulevard near the entrance to the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook
  • Bike lanes from near Duquesne Avenue to Holdrege Avenue
  • Parking lot improvements (approximately 10 parking spaces) and bike racks
Among those who spoke at the event were Mayor Andy Weissman, 2nd District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Chairman of the Baldwin Hills Conservancy Allan Kingston and District Superintendent for California State Parks, Craig Sap (see video).
Funding for the project was provided by a grant from the Baldwin Hills Conservancy, with 25 percent of matching funds from the City of Culver City.
Mayor Weissman. Supervisor Ridley-Thomas and Superintendent Sap all said they hoped the new traffic signal and crosswalk would stop visitors parking opposite the entrance to the Overlook, from jaywalking.

Video: Discovery of the Spider That Builds Spider Decoys

In December, we broke the news about a new species of spider discovered in Peru. Tiny, and likely a member of the genus Cyclosa, the spider builds large, spider-shaped decoys -- and vibrates its web, acting as a master puppeteer. Now, a video shot at the moment the spiders were discovered has been posted to YouTube.

10 episodes that show the heart and soul behind Roseanne’s cynical exterior

TV: TV Club 10: 10 episodes that show the heart and soul behind Roseanne’s cynical exterior

With so many new series popping up on streaming services and DVD every day, it gets harder and harder to keep up with new shows, much less the all-time classics. With TV Club 10, we point you toward the 10 episodes that best represent a TV series, classic or modern. If you watch those 10, you’ll have a better idea of what that series was about, without having to watch the whole thing. These are not meant to be the 10 best episodes, but rather the 10 most representative episodes.

Roseanne shouldn’t have worked. When it debuted in 1988, the family-sitcom landscape was dominated by the middle-to-upper class—your Cosbys, your Seavers, your Micelli-Bowers. (Although a change was brewing on the then-nascent Fox network in the form of Married With Children and some shorts on The Tracey Ullman show starring a certain yellow-skinned clan of weirdos.) Furthermore, it ...

Epic Boondoggle: Jamie Kennedy’s “First Night 2013” New Year’s Eve broadcast

Epic Boondoggle Case File #32: Jamie Kennedy’s “First Night 2013” New Year’s Eve broadcast

My World Of Flops is Nathan Rabin’s twice-monthly survey of books, television shows, musical releases, or other forms of entertainment that were a financial flops, critical failures, and lack a substantial cult following.

The rules are different on New Year’s Eve. On New Year’s Eve, binge drinking isn’t just accepted, but actively encouraged. Hell, in some places it isn’t just actively encouraged; it’s angrily demanded. Sobriety, caution, and self-restraint suddenly become the exclusive province of fuddy-duddies, killjoys, and teetotalers out to destroy everyone’s buzz with their L-7 lameness. On New Year’s Eve, everyone of drinking age is expected to get wasted and exercise terrible judgment, quite possibly with the stranger they’re expected to sloppily exchange saliva with as the clock strikes midnight, lest they be considered a hopeless wallflower or dateless wonder by their friends. For one night at least, we ...
